Bowser is the main antagonist in the Mario series and is one of the most recognizable video game villains, appearing in almost every Mario game and other non-Mario titles.

Super Mario Bros.[]
Bowser's first appearance was in Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System. He turned many of the Mushroom Kingdom's defenders into croonies, even putting a spell on some of them to look like himself and stationing them at other castles. They were dubbed False Bowsers. He even kidnapped the only person who could undo the black magic, Princess Toadstool. Unexpected heroes, two plumbers named Mario and Luigi, decided to try stoppping the mayhem. They beat all of the False Bowsers and got up to Bowser himself. Bowser was defeated and the Mushroom Kingdom, along with Princess Toadstool, were saved, and Bowser faced his first defeat.
