Shadow the Hedgehog is a main character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series and is a rival of Sonic the Hedgehog. First debuting in Sonic Adenture 2, Shadow is one of the most popular and well-recognized characters in the series, even earning his own game, Shadow the Hedgehog.

Sonic Adventure 2[]
Shadow is first introduced in the 2001 Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2 when Eggman learns Shadow is the secret weapon he was looking for and recruits Shadow to help him in his quest, along with Rouge the Bat. Sonic first meets Shadow when Sonic sees a mysterious blur speed past him in the shadows. Shadow then reveals himself on the roof of a building. Sonic asks him who he is and Shadow answers that he's the ultimate life form and escapes. Shadow works with Eggman as he tries to collect the Chaos Emeralds, only because Shadow mistakens Maria's wish of saving the Earth into destroying it and avenging Maria, who was killed by a GUN Soldier on their home of Space Colony ARK.
Sonic Heroes[]
In Sonic Heroes, Shadow is seen alive again when he is awakened by Rouge somewhere in Eggman's base. He immediately starts battling E-123 Omega, who turned against Eggman when he was locked up for too long, causing him to feel betrayed. Mistaking Shadow for just another one of Eggman's creations, Omega attacks Shadow with his firearms until Rouge stops both of them. She makes them realize that they all hate Eggman, and she forms Team Dark, though this is just because she wants to get Eggman's "secret treasure". Shadow is in it for the answers, wanting to get to Eggman to get an explanation since he doesn't remember anything. He starts a friendly relationship with the two of them throughout their journey, and even encounters Team Chaotix (Espio, Vector, Charmy) and Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles) before encountering Eggman in his new creation, the Egg Emperor. Afterwards, they help Team Sonic defeat Neo Metal Sonic in his super form, Metal Overlord, by stalling along with the other teams. Peace is eventually brought back, though Shadow is a little confused when he finds numerous Shadow androids in capsules. This makes him question if he's the real Shadow or just an android.
